Most HR technology connects systems. Very little of it understands people. That gap is where employee experience quietly breaks down — where raw workforce data piles up but confident decisions don't follow, and where the human weight of organizational change goes unaddressed.
This concept takes a different starting point. Rather than treating HR software as a set of disconnected tools, it reimagines the employee journey as one intelligent, structured experience — from the first candidate touchpoint to final offboarding. The foundation is an information architecture I call the HR Journey Intelligence Taxonomy: a shared reasoning model that turns messy workforce data into decisions employees and managers can actually trust.


A seamless employee experience takes more than integration. It takes understanding the decisions and emotions that drive a workforce — and most HR tech ignores that entirely.
The problem shows up in two ways. First, employees drown in data they can't act on. Benefits choices, career moves, and everyday decisions all demand clarity that the systems don't provide. Second, the tools themselves are fragmented. Benefits administration lives in one place, onboarding in another, performance somewhere else. Each tool solves a narrow slice, and none of them speak to the journey a person is actually living.
There's a harder layer beneath that. Organizational change lands heaviest on middle managers, who absorb the stress of transition while being handed tools that add friction instead of removing it. Any product vision that ignores this emotional reality will scale friction along with everything else.
The real challenge, then, wasn't building another HR feature. It was designing a foundation coherent enough to unify the entire journey — and human enough to support the people navigating it.
Durable products are built on strong information design, not surface features. That conviction shaped every decision in this concept.
A taxonomy as the foundation. The HR Journey Intelligence Taxonomy structures complex workforce data into a logical, shared reasoning model. By defining how information relates — across roles, moments, and decisions — the taxonomy lets specialized tools plug into one coherent experience rather than competing for attention. Structure done well is what allows a product to scale effortlessly and still meet exact market needs.
A full-journey lens. While the immediate work centers on benefits administration, real product vision demands a wider frame. This concept maps the entire employee journey, from the first candidate touchpoint through offboarding. That scope ensures each specialized tool fits cleanly into the broader HR tech ecosystem, eliminating friction and creating a unified experience instead of another silo.
Grounded in behavioral research. The approach builds directly on doctoral research into the employee experience — specifically, the emotional impact of organizational change on middle managers. That work revealed a clear signal: perceived organizational support is critical to success. When systems acknowledge that emotional reality and offer genuine support, managers are empowered and daily work improves across the team.
Made tangible. The Acme People Guide concept brings the taxonomy to life, showing how intelligent information design translates raw data into confident, guided decisions.
Shaping this concept reinforced principles that guide how I lead product and design work in complex, human-centered domains.
This concept reflects how I approach product vision. I look past the immediate feature request to the structural gap underneath — here, the absence of a shared reasoning model connecting workforce data to human decisions — and design a foundation the whole ecosystem can grow on.
It also reflects a conviction shaped by both practice and research: HR technology only creates value when it understands people. Employees won't act on data they can't make sense of, and managers won't thrive inside tools that add stress to change. The work is to make the reasoning clear, the journey coherent, and the support real — and to design the underlying architecture that lets a business deliver all three at scale.
