A few years ago, I teamed up with my friend Susan Teague Rector to create a free Kano tool for UX Magazine.
If you are not familiar with Kano, it is a Six Sigma methodology that can help teams determine which features will satisfy and delight customers. I use Kano with my team to help to prioritize potential new features by grouping them into categories. As the business world starts to reset from COVID-19, I have received more questions about Kano from UX Researchers looking for a Kano simplified calculator. In response, I have created this simplified spreadsheet to help teams rapidly field this technique.
Follow these three simple steps to use this calculator:
1-Ask the positive and negative version of the feature present question and record the response (see original article to learn how this works HERE)
2-Next, enter each response into the Details Survey Response Tab and remember to enter two answers for each participate (their response to both the positive and negative version of the question)
The spreadsheet will then automatically create an aggregate score for each feature for:
3-Finally, use the table and chart on the Aggregate Survey Responses tab to discuss the Kano results with your team.
As always, please reach out to me with questions or comments. I hope you find this simple tool useful.
